Double Drummer hits distribution deal with Believe
Double Drummer has struck a global distribution deal with Believe.
The Sydney independent label was formed in 2016 by high-flying former Sony BMG and Alberts executive Tim Prescott and his son, Edward.
The first release through the new deal be the lead single from Sydney indie troubadour Dominic Breen’s upcoming debut album, produced and mixed by Middle Kids’ Tim Fitz. ‘Lovelost’ is due out 18th November.
Currently, Double Drummer’s roster includes Melbourne act Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird; rising Cairns artist Greta Stanley; atmospheric Brisbane indie-pop outfit Fresco Kyoto; and electro-pop of Dust Of Us, whose next track ‘Punching Bag’ is also scheduled for release 18th November.
“We can’t wait to get started,” comments Mick Tarbuk, Managing Director of Believe Australia, while Troy Barrott, Senior Label Manager, adds “Double Drummer’s focus on quality A&R and artist development is an incredible asset, and they are one of a next generation of Australian record labels doing things completely independently, and ready to take on the world.”
Notes Tim Prescott, “Our label evolved purely to support our artists. I’m excited that Believe share our love of their music; and see a big future for them, and for Double Drummer. This relationship expands our team, and our horizons. Thanks Believe for believing.”
Prescott is one of the most successful Australian label executives on the global stage.
After climbing the ladder at Sony Music, Polygram and BMG, he was promoted in 2002 to Chief Marketing Officer for BMG in New York, where he led the major’s worldwide marketing and promotion team. He was a member of the BMG executive team that formed a joint venture with Sony Music, SonyBMG.
Prescott joined Alberts as CEO in July 2007 and served in that role with the Sydney independent powerhouse (now owned by BMG) for three years.
Edward Prescott is a songwriter, recording artist and producer, who has released solo music under the name Edward Deer, and performed with Sydney indie act Why We Run and with Dust of Us.
Tarbuk, formerly label director at Shock Records, established Believe’s Australia and New Zealand business unit in 2016.
Meanwhile, new LPs from Double Drummer’s stable of artists are coming in 2021 from Greta Stanley, Dominic Breen, Fresco Kyoto and Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird.
Also, several exciting new artist signings are “imminent” and will be announced shortly, a rep for the label tells TIO.
