Docklands to host ‘Smashed Avo’ Music & Avocado festival

Melbourne is reportedly getting a new music festival called ‘Smashed Avo’.

According to an event page that’s popped up on Eventbrite, ‘Smashed Avo’ Music & Avocado Festival is coming to Docklands on May 19.

The page says the festival will take place across the Saturday evening in an indoor/outdoor event space.

“You can forget about not being able to achieve the Australian dream of owning your own home; because we’ve got a day of sumptuous international and homegrown music, amazing avocado based activities and plenty of avocado on toast planned for May 19th,” reads the event description.

The event will be headlined by Spacey Space, as well as lineup of local artists and “brunch based performance artists, activated almond and avocado cocktails, avocado and spoon races and smashed avo masterclasses from our in-house chef de party.”

The event has been listed as 18+ and as taking place from 2pm-9:30pm on Saturday May 19.

Update 20/04/18:

Organisers have confirmed that ‘Smashed Avo’ will indeed take place, and that it is a a collaboration between EATmusic (James Austin and Dustin Guilloux-Cooke) and Treat Danceclub (Derek Xiao and Alex Greco).

“We wanted to tell the young people of Melbourne that those who confuse eating a nice breakfast with the housing affordability crisis are way off the mark,” said Guilloux-Cooke. “This is about celebrating everything that is great about Melbourne, while taking a bit of a stab at people who politicise what we eat for breakfast.”

The Docklands festival will be a multi-sensory event combining sumptuous international and local music with avocado-based activities and decor, and a whole lot of avocado on toast supplied by some of Melbourne’s most-loved breakfast purveyors.
