DJ Khaled is the undisputed champion of the charts
DJ Khaled is the undisputed champion of the charts as his guest-loaded track “I’m The One” completes another week atop the singles surveys in the U.S and Australia and misses the U.K. chart crown by a whisker.
The Miami artist, producer and entrepreneur is living proof that perseverance and famous friends can get you over the top. Khaled had never enjoyed a top 40 hit Down Under until “I’m The One” opened at the top two weeks ago, and its easily his biggest hit anywhere music is played.
“I’m The One” features contributions from Justin Bieber, Migos’ Quavo, Chance The Rapper and Lil Wayne and sets the stage for his forthcoming tenth full-length LP. Remarkably, Khaled didn’t crack the top 50 until his ninth attempt when Major Key opened and peaked at No. 6 on the ARIA Albums chart last year. Collaborators on that effort included Jay Z, Future, Drake, Nicki Minaj and Meghan Trainor.
Khaled’s hit is his first No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 and his 14th track to crack the U.S. top 50 (only two of those have reached the top 10, the other: 2011’s “I’m On One” featuring Drake, Rick Ross & Lil Wayne, which reached No. 10).
In the U.K., “I’m The One” is nudged from the top spot this week but easily remains his best performing track in his career thus far. His previous high mark was a No. 25 best for his 2016 release “For Free,” featuring Drake.
Khaled’s reign should come to a screeching halt. Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito,” featuring Justin Bieber, will assume leadership of the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated May 27), with a 3-1 gain, while midweek data published by the OCC suggests “Despacito” will lock down a second successive week at the top in the U.K.
Expect floppy-haired One Direction singer Harry Styles to run away with the U.K. chart title later this week with his solo debut Harry, while American rapper Logic become a first-time chart topper on the Billboard 200 with Everybody, which arrives at No. 1 on the new May 27-dated chart.
Everybody – also loaded with guest features — is Logic’s third set to hit the top 10 album, and fourth effort to make an imprint on the chart.
