Deposition date set in Cardi B’s $15m lawsuit against former manager

Deposition date set in Cardi B’s $15m lawsuit against former manager

Cardi B is set to head to court sometime next year, with a deposition date being set in her $15m countersuit against her former manager.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Cardi B’s former manager – Klenord ‘Shaft’ Raphael – was suing the ‘Bodak Yellow’ hitmaker for $10m.

As Variety explained at the time, Shaft had managed Cardi B since 2015, but explained that the musician cut him off financially once her profile began to rise.

Soon, Cardi B hit back at Shaft, filing a countersuit against him for $15m and claiming that he overstepped his bounds as a manager, and began to interfere with her finances and personal life, including her relationship with recently-separated husband Offset.

Now, as TMZ notes, Cardi B is set to head to court next year as part of a deposition against her former manager.

While the deposition was originally scheduled to take place earlier this year, it had to be delayed due to Cardi B’s pregnancy with her daughter, Kulture. Now, according to TMZ, the musician is set to appear in court sometime early in the new year, though specific details have not been released.

According to the countersuit filed earlier this year, Cardi B claimed that Shaft reportedly put “barriers between her and people close to her in an effort to maintain complete control over her.” Likewise, she also claimed that he began to dictate “who she should and should not see romantically.”

In a response to these claims, a spokesperson for Shaft denied the allegations, noting it was all part of a campaign of defamation.

“The facts are simple – Cardi B’s music, image, and rise to superstardom were all developed and executed by Shaft and his team of writers and producers,” the spokesperson said. “The outright lies and distortions in her claims make you shake your head.”

“This is just more of the same campaign by Cardi B and her team to defame and injure Shaft, the one person who saw promise in her, invested time and resources in her, and succeeded in making her rich and famous.”
