David Bowie’s collaborators join forces for celebration tour

David Bowie’s classics will get the live treatment once more by the artists who worked by his side.

A cadre of Bowie’s collaborators are on board for the “Celebrating David Bowie” tour, a 26-city trek booked across Europe and North America next year.

The British icon’s longtime touring and recording keyboardist Mike Garson will join the likes of guitarist/vocalist Adrian Belew (Sound & Vision Tour), guitarist Gerry Leonard (A Reality Tour), Fishbone’s Angelo Moore, 2017 Grammy nominee Gaby Moreno and various “additional special guests” to salute Bowie with a career-spanning show, based on the premise of “What might a David Bowie 2018 tour set list consist of?”

The run starts in Paris’ Salle Pleyel on January 10, exactly two years since the Thin White Dukes’s shock death at the age of 69. Australia shows have not been announced.

The CdB trek comes after various Bowie bandmates feted the legend for a series of dates on what would have been his 70th birthday.

Bowie eschewed touring in his later years and was rarely seen in public after suffering a heart attack in 2004. CdB creator and producer Angelo Bundini, who plays guitar in the show as Scrote, is buzzed about getting the band back together.

“After the last tour, I didn’t really imagine playing more shows because it was insanely difficult to pull off,” Bundini comments. “David’s last tour was in 2004, so I began to wonder what he might do if he were to tour again today. That’s what we’re presenting in 2018.”

Gone, but certainly not forgotten, Bowie continues to notch up posthumous milestones. His catalogue last month ticked past one billion streams on Spotify, with his 1977 classic “Heroes” leading from the front as his most-streamed solo track of all time.  His final album, Blackstar, debuted at the top on the Billboard 200 chart in January 2016 for Bowie’s first No. 1 in the U.S. The album also swept four wins at the 2017 Grammy Awards, four times as many as he’d managed in his lifetime.
