Watch Dan Rosen join Masked Wolf onstage at ARIAs afterparty

Masked Wolf didn’t win any of the five ARIA Awards he was nominated in, but that didn’t dampen the mood at the Warner Music afterparty.

The music major’s post-ARIAs 2021 hang was a large one, judging from an Instagram post shared by the company’s new signing, Alex the Astronaut.

In the clip, which TIO reposts below, Masked Wolf (real name Harry Michael) can be seen bouncing on stage with a mic, spitting out the lyrics to his multi-platinum hit ‘Astronaut in the Ocean’.

From right of stage, Warner Music Australasia president Dan Rosen taps the rapper, sings along and joins the Wolf Pack.

Masked Wolf snaffled ARIA nominations for Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist, Best Artist, Best Hip Hop Release (presented By Menulog), Song of the Year (presented by YouTube Music) and Best Video (presented by YouTube Music).

The track was an international breakout, cracking the U.S. Top 10 and earning the rapper and producer/songwriter Tyron Hapi induction into APRA AMCOS’ The 1,000,000,000 List, a special prize that recognises more than 1 billion streams across the legitimate streaming platforms.

‘Astronaut’ had an unusual journey into the stratosphere since its initial release back in 2019 through Teamwrk Records.

The record went viral on TikTok in late 2020, and was signed up earlier this year by Elektra Records for the world, excluding Australia and New Zealand, where Teamwrk Records retains control.

Rosen is no stranger to the mic. With collaborator Dan Karni, his act Second Dan won triple j’s unearthed competition back in 2003.

This time last year, Rosen was in the final stretch of his decade-long stint as CEO of ARIA, a role that doesn’t lend itself to singing and rapping on stage with nominated artists.

He made the switch to WMA earlier in 2021, and has inked a string of deals and signings to the company, including Electric Fields, Boy Soda, Carla Wehbe, and Budjerah, who won the inaugural Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist on Wednesday night (Oct. 24) in Sydney.

Genesis Owusu cleaned up at the 35th annual ARIA Awards, taking four pointy trophies, while The Kid LAROI, Rüfüs Du Sol and producer/engineer Konstantin Kersting were among the multiple winners on the night.
