Courtney Barnett eyes U.K. top 20 with ‘Things Take Time, Take Time’

Courtney Barnett is on track to keep her U.K. Top 20 streak alive with Things Take Time, Take Time, her latest solo album.

The celebrated Aussie singer, songwriter and indie label boss’ latest release starts at No. 16 on the midweek U.K. chart, though well off the pace set by Taylor Swift’s Red (Taylor’s Version) and Little Mix’s Between Us, which are separated by just 10 chart sales at the top of the survey.

Barnett is three-for-three with her previous album releases. Her debut from 2015, Sometimes I Sit And Think And Sometimes, peaked at No. 16 in the U.K. and earned Barnett a Brit Award nomination for Best International Female artist; her collaborative album with Kurt Vile, Lotta Sea Lice, reached No. 11 following its release in 2017; and her 2018 solo set Tell Me How You Really Feel cracked the U.K. Top 10, with a No. 9 best.

Along the way, the Milk! Records co-owner has won the Australian Music Prize and Triple J’s  J Award for album of the year, bagged APRA, ARIA and AIR Awards, and was nominated for the best new artist at the 2016 Grammy Awards, losing out to Meghan Trainor.

Things Take Time was written over two years and recorded towards the end of 2020 and early 2021 between Sydney and Melbourne with producer and drummer Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint, Cate le Bon, Kurt Vile).

It’s released in North America via Mom+Pop Music / Marathon Artists, in the U.K. by Marathon and in Australia by, of course, Melbourne-based indie Milk! Records (with distribution through Remote Control Records), a two-time winner of best independent label at the AIR Awards.

Barnett is now on the promotional trail. Early this week, she stopped by the Ellen studios to perform the new single ‘Write A List of Things to Look Forward To.’

Barnett’s upcoming documentary, Anonymous Club, is currently screening at the Sydney Film Festival and will be screening at ACMI for Melbourne Music Week in December. Filmed over three years, Anonymous Club was produced by Film Camp and is distributed in Australia by Film Art Media and in the USA by Oscilloscope Laboratories.

A homecoming tour in support of the new album is locked in for March 2022, presented by Chugg Entertainment, Frontier Touring, Penny Drop and Village Sounds.

Tickets are available for dates in Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane, and for her appearance at WOMADelaide festival

Barnett isn’t the only Australian singer making an impression on the U.K. chart blast.

Kylie Minogue’s former No. 1 Disco dances back into the Top 10, following the release of a “Guest Edition”. Disco is at No. 9 on the Official Chart Update.
