Christmas with Delta brings 380,000 metro viewers to Nine
Delta Goodrem’s weekend Christmas special, which went to air on Channel 9 over the weekend, had 380,000 overnight metro viewers.
This made it the most-popular entertainment program of the night, ahead of a repeat of Midsomer Murders on the ABC (254,000), and a repeat of Ambulance UK on Channel 10, which failed to make the top 20 programs list.
Christmas with Delta was also up against the Big Bash cricket match between the Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers, which had a slightly higher audience of 426,000 on Channel 7.
Goodrem’s Christmas special was most popular in Melbourne, where 122,000 tuned in.
The show was filmed from the Sydney Opera House and was used as a vehicle to promote her new Christmas album Only Santa Knows.
It featured performances from Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, Kelly Rowland, Pentatonix, Montaigne and Olivia Newton-John, who also joined Goodrem on the pair’s joint song, ‘Merry Christmas To You’. A number of special guests, including Hamish Blake, also made an appearance throughout the special.
Blake appeared as part of his partnership with Tourism Australia, in which he and wife Zoe Foster-Blake are encouraging Australians to take local holidays and getaways in light of COVID-19 travel restrictions.
The partnership with Tourism Australia and the Christmas special saw three families surprised with a holiday in some of the country’s most stunning locations.
“From drought to bushfires, floods and a global pandemic, 2020 has truly been a tough year for Aussies but it has not broken our spirit,” Goodrem said in a statement ahead of the broadcast.
“Christmas holds a very special place in my heart, and I can’t wait to celebrate our great nation’s resilience through music and giving something back to the community during this holiday season.”
The Christmas special will be repeated at 7:30pm on Christmas Eve, as well as at 11:00am on Christmas Day. This week, Goodrem is also appearing daily on Channel 7’s The Morning Show to perform songs from her new Christmas-themed album.
