Chelsea Wolfe and Sleep cancel 2018 Australian tours in light of allegations against Life Is Noise promoter
American singer-songwriter Chelsea Wolfe and doom trio Sleep have cancelled their respective 2018 Australian tours.
Both acts made announcements over the weekend followingallegations of sexual misconduct levelled at Life Is Noise tour promoter and co-owner David Cusbush, who had been promoting both tours.
“It came to light that the promoter of our Australia and New Zealand tour Dave Cutbush has been accused of sexual misconduct,” said Wolfe in a statement on Facebook.
“Under these circumstances we don’t feel it would be right to continue working with him, so we are canceling our Aus/NZ March 2018 tour.
“I’ve dealt with my own share of bullshit from men in this industry and beyond so I know what it’s like, and I’m glad that people are speaking out about their experiences in order to create a better atmosphere for all.
“I hope to reschedule this tour as soon as possible. Much love and many thanks for understanding.”
Californian outfit Sleep made a similar statement, outlining they felt they had no choice but to cancel their own tour, but theyhoped to arranged another tour soon.
“We have learned today of allegations of sexual harassment and verbal and physical abuse by Dave Cutbush of Life is Noise,” they said.
“We cannot and will not tolerate this behavior with anyone. We cannot tolerate or work with those who are complicit in this behavior either.
“In light of this, and with utmost respect to those affected, it is with great regret that we must cancel our planned tour of New Zealand and Australia this coming January.
“We hope to arrange another tour with a new promoter or touring company, to be determined at a future date. Stay safe and make your voices heard.”
Sleep have since made another statement, thanking many who contacted they to try to help re-book their tour, which was set to begin in January 2018.
“Aside from the inescapable ethics issues involved, there were other factors that may need clarification about why we pulled the tour altogether,” said the band.
“Due to how intrinsically linked Life is Noise was to the tour, and given the very short amount of time to switch to a new promoter and touring company, we knew that canceling it clean and postponing was the best option.
“There was simply not enough time to completely de-couple this tour from one company to another.
Life Is Noise issueda statement of their own, indicating that a decision regarding the statusWolves In The Throne Room’s April 2018 tour would be at hand soon.
