Chart Wrap: Geronimo Returns to #1, Azalea has two in the top 10

Charts & Music Manager

Hot 100

This week sees the return of Sheppard’s Geronimo to the top of the TMN Hot 100 airplay chart. After a single week at #2, the radio-dominating track returns for its 6th week at #1. Although Geronimo’s sales have been waning in recent weeks, it still holds the #10 spot on the ARIA Singles chart for the second week in a row. At #2 this week is Que Sera by Justice Crew. The track enjoyed a brief week at #1 last week but it seems it was short lived with radio airplay just ever so slightly favoring Sheppard. Unlike Geronimo, Que Sera is enjoying success in the Top 5 of the ARIA Singles chart. For five weeks now it has been at #1, including the week it debuted.

Elsewhere in the Top 10 we can see Sam Smith’s Stay With Me jump four positions from #10 to #6. The single has potential to make it into the Top 5 if Sia’s Chandelier continues to drop single positions each week. Iggy Azalea’s Fancy featuring Charlie XCX finally broke into the Top 10 this week, jumping from #12 to #9, all the while breaking records in the US. This makes the second single Azalea has in the Top 10, the other being Problem by Ariana Grande which Azalea features on.

The TMN Hot 100 isn’t starved for big movers this week. Illy’s Tightrope is yet again one of this week’s most moved tracks, jumping from #48 to #37 and expected to go even higher. Somebody To You by The Vamps featuring Demi Lovato jumped from #78 to #46 and Kim Cesarion’s I Love This Life jumped from #83 to #68, no doubt enjoying last week’s ninth most added position.

High debuts seem to be the theme for this week’s Hot 100.  To start things off, Bridges by Broods has entered at #61 after several weeks of decent airplay. Bonnie Anderson’s Black Out entered at #54 and just a spot above them The Madden Brothers debut at #53 with their new single We Are Done. Most impressively however, is Benny Tipene’s Make You Mine, which debuted at #47.

ARIA Singles

Justice Crew’s Que Sera is still at the top of the ARIA Singles, now for five weeks in a row since debuting at the top spot. Nico & Vinz’s Am I Wrong is our new #2 on the chart after jumping three spots from last week, a definite contender for Que Sera, at least in regards to sales.

Outside the Top 10 we can see Melbourne rapper Illy share success on the singles chart. The certified Gold single Tightrope jumped from #27 to #19 and is his first single inside the ARIA Singles Top 20.

High debuts seem to be a reoccurring theme for charts this week with plenty of artists breaking into the top 50. Both The Collective and Angus & Julia Stone had their singles Burn The Bright Lights and Heart Beats Slow debut at #34 and #37 respectively.

ARIA Albums

For three weeks now Coldplay’s Ghost Stories has been at the top of the ARIA Albums chart. No doubt we can expect it to sit there for another few weeks and feed off the success of their upcoming promo tour which includes the sell out performance at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney. Ellie Goulding has returned to the Top 50 f0llowing the success of her recent tour around the country, pushing Halycon Days to #4 on the Albums chartCountry legend Keith Urban has been pushed to #6 on this week’s chart in the lead up to his Australian tour, which starts next week. Keith Urban is enjoying success on other charts though, with his single Cop Car peaking at #3 and currently sitting at #8 on the TMN Official Australian Country Airplay Chart.

High debuts again this week with Die Antwoord and 50 Cent. Donker Mag, the latest album from South African hip hop group Die Antwoord has achieved the groups best ever ARIA chart result, debuting at #11. Animal Ambition: An Untamed Desire To Win  debuts at #16 and is 50 Cent’s first studio album since Before I Self Destruct which was released five years ago .
