A number of Australian musicians and performers are set to take part on a special series of Celebrity Mastermind on SBS later this month.

Human Nature’s Phil Burton, original Red Wiggle Murray Cook, musician Ben Lee, musical theatre star Prinnie Stevens, and accordionist and former Australia’s Got Talent contender Hans are all competing for the title.

Former record label executive and Australian Idol judge Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson is also taking part, as is his former Australian Idol colleague James Mathison, as well as entertainment reporter Richard Reid.

Each episode will feature four celebrities facing each other for a chance to compete in the Celebrity Grand Final on Saturday, September 25.

Some of the celebrities’ special topics include Brad Pitt, Frida Kahlo, Donald Trump, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hamlet, Friends and the history of Australian surfing.

Host and quizmaster Marc Fennell said he loves watching some of Australia’s best-known faces revel in their “nerdiness”.

“Look, I’m not gonna lie. There is a perverse joy in watching objectively talented people – ARIA-winning musicians, brilliant journalists, and Logie-winning actors – all face the spotlight. The squirming is real. But what’s even more fun is watching them truly embrace their favourite nerdy subjects. I’ve said all along that Mastermind is a celebration of Australia’s nerds,” he said.

The series kicks off with Mathison, Hans, Gold Logie-winning John Wood, and radio and TV journalist Patricia Karvelas, at 8:30pm on Saturday, August 28 on SBS.
