Cardi B sued for $10m by ex-manager
Rapper of the moment, Cardi B, is being sued for $10 million by her ex-manager.
Klenord “Shaft” Raphael began working together in 2015 and “treated her like his daughter” but claims that the 25-year-old Bronx native dumped him after she became successful.
Raphael runs KSR Group and WorldStar Management.
In court papers, he claims he got her the deal to star in two seasons (2015—17) of VH1 series Love & Hip Hop: New York, and his team of writers were responsible for ‘Bodak Yellow’, her first US chart-topper in September.
According to a statement from a Raphael representative, “Since discovering Cardi B in 2015, Shaft has played an integral role in developing her music career and public image.
“While he is proud of their successful collaborations as she evolved from Instagram influencer to music megastar, Shaft is disappointed by her actions to freeze him out of her career, which are detailed in the complaint.
“Shaft is confident that his lawsuit will validate his conduct and substantiate his legal claims.”
Cardi, born Belcalis Almanzar, switched management in March to Quality Control.
It is home to Migos; she is engaged to band member Offset, and they are expecting a baby in July.
