Brisbane’s Crowbar to take over Sydney’s Bald Faced Stag
Brisbane’s Crowbar is expanding to Sydney in December, taking over The Bald Faced Stag on Parramatta Road, Leichardt.
The 1,300 square metre live music venue has 550 capacity band room. Earlier this year Marvan Hotels sold it for nearly $8 million after its former tenant ran into financial difficulties.
After six years of holding down Brisbane’s ‘home of the heavy’, Trad Nathan and Tyla Dombroski are relocating to Sydney.
The lease is for an initial five years. It may be extended if the 1833 building is not developed.
The pair intends to make it a significant live music venue.
“We’ve both spent a lot of time in Sydney over the years and have watched a lot of venues close down, we don’t want to see this happen to the Stag,” says Dombroski.
“We have an opportunity to rebuild it, and we are going to make that happen!”
At the Brisbane venue, Nathan and Tyla Dombroski established strong links with the local community and ran many benefit nights for the local artist colony suffering from mental and financial issues.
The two also recently began a management company to help out local and interstate bands.
“The space is absolutely amazing and the timing is right” says Nathan. “We’ve built a strong community for punters and bands at Crowbar in Brisbane, we can’t wait to bring the same values to Sydney!”
