Bowie ties record with Elvis Presley in the UK
As David Bowie’s 2016 albumBlackstartops the UK Albums chart for its third consecutive week, it ties a record held by 20th century cultural icon, Elvis Presley.
Presley holds the record for the most simultaneous entries in the Top 40 of the Albums chart. Presley clocked up 12 albums on the chart following his death in 1977, and this week Bowie has done the same.
Bowie currently has five record in the UK Top 10. His current global #1 Blackstar holds the top spot, Best of Bowiesits at #3,Nothing Has Changedis at #5,Hunky Doryis at #9 andThe Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Marsis at #10.
Over his five-decade-long career, Bowie has had nine albums top the UK charts. In the US he topped the chart five times, and in Australia, just once, with Blackstar.
Blackstar is currently at #3 on the ARIA Albums chart, falling behind last week’s #1 25 (Adele’s latest) and the chart debut from Sydney’s own RÜFÜS with their sophomore album Bloom.
Last week Bowie hit an all-time record with 18 albums in the ARIATop 100. He currently has three albums in the Top 50 and nine in the Top 100.
Blackstar was released on Bowie’s 69th birthday, just two days before he passed away on January 10. Bowie’s death followed an 18-month battle with liver cancer.
