BMG Australia signs Wave Racer to global deal

Just five months into its existence in Sydney as a stand-alone publisher, BMG Australia has added a fifth artist to its stable.

Announced today, Sydney-based electronic artist Wave Racer (aka Thomas Purcell) has been inked to an exclusive, global publishing agreement.

“It’s very exciting for me to be joining BMG! It’s amazing to have their global team representing my music around the world, and I’m looking forward to many new opportunities and experiences with the BMG team,” said Purcell.

Purcell has toured with Disclosure and Porter Robinson in Australia, Chromeo in the US and Canada, and performed at global festivals including Coachella 2016, Splendour In The Grass, Life Is Beautiful, Ultra Music Festival, Mad Decent Block Party, Groovin The Moo and Falls Festival.

Purcell’s US headline tour through March and April this year saw him perform to over 1,000 fans in Santa Ana at The Observatory. He also licensed his track Streamers to an Optus television campaign last year. More interestingly though, the track was hand-picked by Bill Gates to be played during his recent annual letter speech for Microsoft.

Heath Johns, Managing Director BMG Australia, said: “Wave Racer is inventive, progressive and versatile- his music really excites us and it is very encouraging to see his international audience increasing so rapidly.

“I have little doubt that the support of the BMG international team will only serve to further accelerate his impressive global momentum. The global spotlight is on Australia and New Zealand right now because our artists are making interesting music and Wave Racer is at the forefront of this movement.”

Earlier this month BMG announced it had signed artist/producer LDRU, aka DrewCarmody, one half of electronic duoCarmada. BMG Australia announced its first signings in May, Chris Ross and Myles Heskett of Wolfmother and Chris Cheney of The Living End.

Through BMG’s existing international deals, the publisher also includes local artistsMeg Mac, Tame Impala (ex-ANZ) and Matt Corby on its roster.

BMG Australia has also been quick to name its Sydney team. Longtime Alberts staffer Rachel Kelly is Director Sync Licensing and Sarah Breese, who worked for three-and-a-half years at the company’s Berlin office, is Senior Royalties/Copyright Manager.
