Bigsound Taps Casey O’Shaughnessy, Katie Rynne as Music Programmers Music Showcase Applications Open

Select Music’s Casey O’Shaughnessy and Village Sound’s Katie Rynne are appointed music programmers for Bigsound, the four-day, three-night conference and showcase extravaganza which this year celebrates its 23rd annual event.

Announced Wednesday (March 6), O’Shaughnessy and Rynne succeed Ruby-Jean McCabe and Dominic Miller as programmers for the Bigsound music program, which today opens its virtual doors for artist showcase applications.

“The title of Bigsound music programmer requires a level of knowledge and connection to the Australian and global music industry uniquely found in their three decades of combined experience,” comments Kris Stewart, CEO of Bigsound and QMusic, the trade body that produces the annual Brisbane music industry gathering.

O’Shaughnessy, senior booking agent at Australia’s largest independent agency, Select Music, and Rynne, senior booking agent at Village Sounds, which operates under the Secret Sounds Group, have “helped forge the careers of an incredible number of artists,” Stewart adds.

Now, the pair “step into the formidable task of scouring thousands of showcase applications, to ultimately help shape the landscape of Australian music, both here and abroad.”

O’Shaughnessy and Rynne will be tasked with identifying and showcasing the next big things in contemporary music, many of whom have launched their careers with performances for Bigsound delegates.

Over the years, Flume, Tones And I, Rufus du Sol, Thelma Plum, Gang of Youths, A.B. Original, Courtney Barnett, Jungle Giants and many others have played under the Bigsound banner.

Bigsound 2024 is locked in for Sept. 3-6, and once again will take over the Fortitude Valley’s entertainment precinct.

The two key appointments are announced as Bigsound opens artist applications.

“We are calling for diverse acts of all genres, signed and unsigned, emerging and established,” explains Stewart.

“Bigsound’s role is to create opportunities for artists, so if you’re ready to play in front of industry reps from all over the world, we urge you to apply.”

Bigsound 2024 is presented by Brick Lane Brewing and independent ticketing specialist Oztix, and supported by triple j, with a raft of government partners on board.
