Scenic Drive signs Bec Sykes ahead of new single
Scenic Drive has signed Melbourne artist Bec Sykes ahead of her single ‘Getaway’ dropping on November 10.
Sykes has previously feature on triple j Unearthed and earned support across triple j and Double J for her debut single ‘Edithvale’. Last year, she won the Josh Pyke partnership – a $7,500 grant and mentorship program for an unsigned artist.
Scenic Drive, meanwhile, is the independent label started by producer Wayne Connolly who has worked with the likes of Cloud Control, The Vines, Boy & Bear and Youth Group. It has international distribution via Believe Digital.
The label said it aims to build a community around a core of great artists.
“I just loved ‘Edithvale’ and went to see Bec play live in between lockdowns,” Connolly explained. “Her performance was stunning and showed the depth of her talent.”
Sykes said the signing was a dream come true.
“I’m really excited to be part of Scenic Drive and to be releasing another song into the world. It feels like a dream to be working alongside Wayne who has worked on a bunch of songs and records that have had a big influence on me over the years.”
She said her approach to music is intimate and minimalist, where she sings her feelings. With ‘Getaway’ she explores the rumination that occurs after the end of a relationship and learning to be alone without spiralling into overthinking.
