Australia’s top 25 most-searched lyrics of 2020 so far

Tones And I‘s global hit ‘Dance Monkey’ may have taken the crown for most-streamed song of all time, but it was also among the most-searched lyrics of 2020 so far.

The Melbourne artist’s multi record-breaking song came in at #3 on the list of Australia’s top 25 most-searched lyrics for this year so far, published exclusively by TIO.

Topping the list is the collab track from Eminem and Juice WRLD, ‘Godzilla’. The track, released in January, peaked at #3 on the ARIA chart, achieving Platinum accreditation here.

Coming in at #2 is Lewis Capaldi’s ‘Someone You Loved’, which is now certified 7x Platinum in Australia – his most engaged market for the song outside of Canada, surprisingly.

Tones And I may be the only Australian act on the list, but it features one other artist from Australasia: Kiwi indie-pop act Benee. Her track ‘Supalonely’ (which she recently performed on Ellen), comes in at #25.

The most-searched lyrics make the power of TikTok ostensibly clear. Tracks like Benee‘s ‘Supalonely’, Doja Cat’s ‘Say So’, ‘Roses’ by SAINt JHN, ‘Skechers’ by DripReport, and ‘Roxanne’ by Arizona Zervas all went viral on TikTok.

TikTok was especially crucial to the chart success of ‘Roxanne’ by Arizona Zervas, which Spotify added to 45 of its curated playlists after the track was clocking over a million streams a day on TikTok. The track hit #2 in Australia, and #1 in the US and New Zealand.

The most-searched lyrics list was created with data from LyricFind, which provides its global partners with an extensive catalogue of accurate and fully legal lyrics, licensed from all the majors, as well as 5,000 other publishers and PRO’s around the world.
