Australia-only Spotify Codes feature rolls out worldwide

Spotify just became more social with a new feature that allows users to share music with scannable images.

The market leading streaming service today rolled out its Spotify Codes, a QR Code-like product that encourages mobile users to share tracks, albums and playlists.

Spotify tested the new feature in Australia, and it’s now available worldwide on iOS and Android.

Like anything worth sharing, the new feature is easy to wrap your head around. And it works, fast.

To pull up a Spotify Code, just tap the “three dots” button on the right side of the screen while playing a song, or when you’re hovering over an artist or playlist. By clicking through you can also save the code to your camera roll to easily send on. And to scan, click on the new camera icon to the right of the search bar, and get to work. Read more here on how to get it done.

It’s all very similar to Snapcodes, and most tech bloggers have been quick to give Spotify’s new offering the thumbs up. The truly fun stuff, however, is about to begin. You can also scan a Spotify Code printed on a flyer, poster or even a billboard (and, in time, for TV campaigns), which opens up more opportunities for artists and labels to get their music out there.

The codes “are not just great for sharing new music with friends and loved ones, they also present an innovative and exciting new way for artists, labels and brands to instantly engage with fans through Spotify,” is how the streaming giant is calling it.
