Ashley Page, Scott Maclachlan win at NZ Music Managers Awards
Ashley Page, artist manager for Brisbane artist Jarryd James, New Zealand brother-sister duo Broods and Lorde’s co-writer/producer Joel Little was crowned Manager of the Year at the 2015 Music Managers Awards.
The first-time winner saw Broods break into the UK and US markets in the same year as taking home the Breakthrough Artist award at the 2014 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards. Joel Little, who Page has been managing since he formed his own management firm Page 1 in 2008, is currently working with Lorde on a follow-up to her ARIA #1 debut LP Pure Heroine. Jarryd James’ debut single Do You Remember is certified Platinum and peaked at #2 on the ARIA chart and #1 on the Australian iTunes charts.
While artist management runs in the family (his father Larry Page The Kinks and The Troggs in the ‘60s) Page got his start in the industry when Korda Marshall poached him for Mushroom Infectious Records in the UK. After following his partner Tracey Donaldson back to her native New Zealand he became a label manager at seminal Christchurch-based label Flying Nun. When Page flew solo to create Page 1 Management, Joel Little followed and was later convinced to work with Lorde. Little has since worked with Sam Smith, MØ, Daniel Johns and Ellie Goulding.
Also taking home an MMA on Friday night was Scott Maclachlan, who won the International Achievement award for his achievements managing ex-client Lorde and Sol3 Mio and duo Nick Dwyer and Dick Johnson, who took home Breakthrough Manager of the Year for Australasian festival circuit regulars/ dance music project Weird Together.
