ARIA Awards 2017: Gang Of Youths lead nominations with eight nods

ARIA Awards 2017: Gang Of Youths lead nominations with eight nods

This morning’s ARIA nominations saw Sydney five-piece Gang Of Youths lead the pack with eight nods, just beating out Paul Kelly who scored seven nominations – already winning two Artisan ARIA Awards, for Engineer Of The Year and Best Cover Art.

David Le’aupepe of Gang Of Youths said: “There is no greater honour to us than to be respected and considered worthy of good repute in our beloved home country. We love Australia, we love the people in it and although we feel undeserving, we’re extraordinarily grateful.”

A.B Original, Amy Shark, Illy, and Jessica Mauboy have all had massive years, each up for six awards.

Denis Handlin, ARIA Chairman, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Apple Music to offer Australian music fans a truly unique and memorable experience for the 31st Annual ARIA Award celebrations.

“I would also like to congratulate all of the winners announced today in the Fine Arts, Artisan and Best Comedy categories, as well as those artists nominated for the 2017 ARIA Awards with Apple Music. Each of the nominees and winners truly demonstrate the brilliant influence and creativity of our Australian artists and we look forward to celebrating a wonderful showcase on the 28th November at The Star, Sydney.”

Dan Rosen, ARIA Chief Executive Officer, added: “2017 has been another remarkable year for Australian artists both at home and across the globe. The artists honoured today as winners in the Fine Arts, Artisan and Best Comedy Categories show that the high quality of artistic achievement in the Australian music scene is spread across a wide range of genres.

“The Artisan Award winners exemplify that hard work, innovation and creativity is not limited to those who play the music but also those who contribute to the recordings behind the scenes. It is also with great excitement and anticipation that we look forward to November 28 when we reveal the winners of the remaining categories and bring more ARIA magic moments to the stage.

The 2017 ARIA Awards are happening Tuesday, November 28th, at The Star Event Centre, Sydney.
