ARIA Singles Chart to include audio streaming

Former Editor

The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) will integrate audio streaming into the Official ARIA Singles Chart.

From November 24, the data currently compiled for its two-year-old ARIA Streaming Track Chart will be included in the Singles Chart.

ARIA Chief Executive Officer, Dan Rosen said the new rundown follows two years of streaming growth with services like Spotify, Deezer, JB Now, Rdio and Samsung Music Hub becoming more indicative of the music we like.

“We aim to continuously evolve the ARIA Charts to ensure that they accurately represent the new ways that Australian music fans are consuming their favourite music,” said Dan Rosen.

The Official UK Singles Chart implemented free audio streams in June but while theirs takes into account Platinum, Gold and Silver accreditations awarded to artists who reach sales milestones, the ARIA Accreditations (Gold: 35,000 units shipped and Platinum: 70,000) will remain sales based.

ARIA will reflect the “difference in weight” between streaming and purchasing  with a “audio conversion rate”, similar to what is used in the UK and Europe. However, ARIA says the rate is “reflective of the local market conditions”.
