ARIA Charts Breakdown: Tones And I just won’t slow down

ARIA Chart placements for this week have just come in, with American pop icon Billie Eilish getting back her beloved No. 1 crown on the Australian Albums Chart.

With Eilish at the helm of that No. 1 Albums Chart spot, there has been little movement in the way of debuts from Australian artists. Similarly, there have been only a small number of debuts from international artists, too.

But, not to worry, Australian talent has been bringing it home on the Australian Singles and Albums Charts. Both of Tones And I’s only two released tracks are in the top three.

Albums Chart

The strongest debut on this week’s ARIA Albums Chart was J. Cole and Dreamville’s collaborative album, Revenge of the Dreamers III which placed directly behind Eilish at No. 2, for WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP WHERE DO WE GO?

Other Albums Chart debuts include Machine Gun Kelly’s Hotel Diablo, which missed out on a top 20 debut, placing at No. 26. Posthumous Michael Hutchence record Mystify – a Musical Journey with Michael Hutchence managed to to just make the top 30, placing at No. 28.

Jaden’s ERYS came in at No. 34, while Maroon 5’s compilation Singles Collection reentered at No. 49.

Singles Chart

Lil Nas X is continuing his upwards spiral this week, maintaining his No. 1 spot for ‘Old Town Road’, which, just this week, received an invigoration in the form of a feature from that Walmart Yodelling kid.

Post Malone has just managed to crack the top five this week, with he and Young Thug’s brand new track ‘Goodbyes’.

In what has been a whirlwind week for English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, five of his tracks currently occupy the Singles Chart. This means Sheeran is taking up 10% of Singles Chart real estate, and 12.5% of the top 40.

Sheeran’s tracks ‘I Don’t Care’ [No. 3], ‘Beautiful People (featuring Khalid)’ [No. 4], ‘Cross Me (featuring Chance the Rapper & PnB Rock]’ [No. 14], ‘Best Part of Me (featuring Yebba)’ [No. 24], and ‘Blow (featuring Chris Stapleton and Bruno Mars) [No. 40], all made the Singles Chart.

Other debuts include Y2K and bbno$ with ‘Lalala’ which placed at No. 41, Jessica Mauboy’s ‘Little Things’ [No. 46] and Illy’s ‘Then What’, placing at No. 47.

5 Seconds of Summer are now 9x ARIA Certified Platinum, with ‘Youngblood’ which has reentered at No. 50.

Australian Albums Chart

Kylie Minogue’s compilation record Step Back In Time: The Definitive Collection is now in its second week atop the Australian Albums Chart.

There were only two debuts in this week’s Australian Albums Chart, belonging to Michael Hutchence at No. 5 for Mystify – A Musical Journey With Michael Hutchence, and Brad Butcher at No. 12 with Travelling Salesman.

Australian Singles Chart

There have been no Australian Singles debuts this week. Though, Australian pop singer Guy Sebastian, who’s also judging Channel 9’s The Voice this year, has kept his ARIA Australian Singles Chart lead with ‘Choir’ returning for another week at No. 1.

Tones And I doesn’t seem to slow down, with the Mornington Peninsula-turned Byron Bay busker currently seeming to take over the world. Her only two singles ‘Dance Monkey’ and ‘Johnny Run Away’ have placed at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively.

Vinyl Albums Chart

The Vinyl Charts have been friendly to iconic pop group Spice Girls, with their Greatest Hits compilation record placing at No. 1. Michael Hutchence’s latest record joins them, placing directly behind the Spice Girls at No. 2.

Olympia’s Flamingo has gained considerable traction, too, with the Wollongong artist’s freshly released record placing at No. 6.
