Vika & Linda, Spacey Jane & The McClymonts top ARIA Albums Chart
Vika & Linda Bull landed their first chart-topping album on this week’s ARIA charts with their career retrospective ‘Akilotoa (Anthology 1994-2006).
It was a close race to the finish line for the Melbourne sisters. So tight in fact, that #1 awards were on standby for the Top 3 while the charts team at ARIA crunched the numbers.
There were strong sales from Spacey Jane (#2) with their debut Sunlight and The McClymonts (#3) with Mayhem To Madness, marking the first time since 2014 that Aussie acts held the Top 3 spots.
“Congratulations to Vika and Linda Bull, who have been enduring and unique voices in Australian music for over 30 years,” ARIA CEO Dan Rosen said.
“For a career that has covered so many styles, collaborations and albums, it seems long overdue for them to be rewarded with and ARIA #1 Album.”
Across two discs, the Bull’s collection brings together tracks from five studio and two live albums written by the likes of Paul Kelly, Archie Roach, Stephen Cummings and Mark Seymour.
Strong pre-orders for Fremantle indie rockers Spacey Jane’s debut pushed them ahead of The McClymonts this week, a stellar effort for the AWAL-signed indie outfit.
“We’re so stoked with this result, it’s definitely something we never expected. Massive thanks to everyone who’s been spinning the record this week, and to AWAL for the hard yards on the release – it’s a dream debut for us,” the band said.
The sixth studio album from Grafton sisters The McClymonts is the trio’s fifth Top 10 on the ARIA Albums Chart and their fourth album to top the ARIA Country Albums Chart.
“We are proud to be part of a diverse group of Australian artists in the top three of the ARIA Album chart this week,” The McClymonts said.
“We want to send a big congratulations to Vika & Linda who we have been fans of since we were kids. We used to practice our harmonies by singing along to their songs and it’s inspiring to see them at the top of the chart.”
