APRA AMCOS paid $46m to performers in the last quarter

APRA AMCOS' year-end royalty payments show its members took a share in just over $46 million from live performances in the last quarter, which includes $6 million in overseas royalties.

As reported through Live Performance Returns (LPRs), the last financial year saw a 51% increase in LPRs received from members over the last ten years. Most notably, over$4 million was distributed in LPR royalties last week alone.

The increase reflects a healthy live music sector with LPR rates-per-work increasing from $1.79 to $1.81 this year, the highest rate to date.

APRA AMCOS Head of Member Services Group, Dean Ormston, said: “LPR payments are important to members at all stages of their career cycle. Whether new acts honing their performance skills or seasoned performers, the feedback is LPR payments provide a welcome cash bonus, and recognition. For some it's a tank of petrol, and for others new equipment.

“In 2015 we'll launch stage one of our Member App which will include the option of saving setlists and submitting LPRs whenever suits. Our goal is to grow the value of LPR payments, simplify administration and move to quarterly payments from November 2015."

APRA AMCOS initiated the LPR annual payment in 1980 to rewardmembers for the live performance of their works, both locallyand internationally.
