APRA AMCOS and Live Music Office launch ‘Rockin’ The Puburbs’ band comp

Rockin’ The Puburbs, aside from being an excellently-named competition, is giving one band a mighty leg-up, with a run of gigs across some of the leading pubs in NSW on offer.

The winning band (entries are open to NSW bands only, sorry) will also have the skills of a dedicated tour publicist, plus mentorship from APRA AMCOS Ambassador Mark Lizotte, and the entire team from the Live Music Office. The first gig on their tour will be a good one too – at the AHA NSW Awards for Excellence in November, in front of more than 1,000 people. Did we mention you’ll be paid for this tour, too?

“I’ve been playing in pubs since the age of 14,” explains Mark Lizotte, and they’ve played an integral part in my development as a musician, providing an environment in which to work on my craft.  Live music in pubs is part of the Australian landscape and in 2017, more than ever, we need to acknowledge and nurture the culture we have created for the future.”

Rockin’ the Puburbs is the perfect leg-up for emerging songwriters in NSW” adds Milly Petriella, Director, Member Relations. “You only have to look at music icons Cold Chisel and The Angels who started out at pubs across the country to see where this can lead. This is about creating live opportunities and developing the next generation of Australian songwriters, and hopefully something we can offer to other states in the future.”

The prize is worth $15,000, and entries will be judged by an industry panel including reps from APRA AMCOS, the Live Music Office, AHA NSW and Mark Lizotte. The winner will be announced on 8 November.
