“We’ve had Dean Lewis on our list for a while”: Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s latest ‘Up Next’ artist

Homegrown sensation Dean Lewis‘ momentum continues to build, now named Apple Music’s new Up Next artist.

Off the back of a huge 2018 with breakout commercial hit ‘Be Alright’ finding global success, Lewis now joins a list of names that includes Billie Elish, Khalid, 6LACK and of course compatriot Amy Shark in Apple’s monthly feature series.

ARIA winner Lewis became the most shazamed artist in America earlier this month with his latest single ‘7 Minutes, and his debut album A Place We Knew is out this Friday.

He also performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live overnight.

“It’s such a huge honor to be chosen as the newest Up Next artist!” said Lewis. “Out of so many artists, I was blown away they decided to choose me.

“It’s been a long journey – developing as a songwriter in Australia, to touring and meeting fans from all around the world.

“With my debut album around the corner, I’m very excited to share my story with the support of the entire Apple team.”

As part of being an Up Next artist, Lewis will feature in a film shot entirely on iPhone XS, which sees family members talk through his journey from his first guitar to his breakthrough.

“We’ve had Dean Lewis on our list for a while,” said Apple Music creative director and host Zane Lowe.

“It wasn’t about whether he should be an Up Next artist, it was simply a case of when. Dean writes songs from a relatable point of view, a universal language that people live through every day.

“He can take that sentiment and turn it into something romantic, and he has a lot of confidence in his writing. We’re excited to shine a global spotlight on his music and bring his voice to a wider audience.”
