Alex Lahey takes out $25K Levi’s Music Prize
A panel of international judges today awarded the second round of the $25,000 Levi’s Music Prize to Alex Lahey.
The prize is awarded quarterly to artists who’ve used BIGSOUND to help launch their careers in Australia, but need a financial boost to break through internationally.
Perth singer-songwriter Stella Donnelly won the inaugural prize last year.
Melbourne-hailing Lahey released her debut album ‘I Love You Like A Brother’ in 2017, after a breakout 2016 in which she was showcased at BIGSOUND.
The international panel of judges included Jim Pitt (Jimmy Kimmell Live!), Ruth Barlow (Beggards), Josh Roth (Superfly/Bonaroo), Jessica Strassman (Columbia Records) and Ali Hendrick (Billions).
“I am extremely honoured and grateful to have been awarded the Levi’s® Music Prize,” said Lahey.
“As an independent artist, having this support and encouragement is so motivating and will help get this project overseas for more touring and recording opportunities.
“Always support local artists.”
“BIGSOUND 2017 was an exciting first for us in launching the Levi’s® Music Prize,” added Levi’s marketing manager for Aus & NZ Nicky Rowsell.
“It was great to see the positivity that the award created from within the Australian music industry.
“We’d like to congratulate our second winner – Alex Lahey and look forward to watching her international career goals come to fruition over the coming 12 months”
Applicationsfor round three of the $25K Levi’s Music Prize are now open until March 10.
