AIR Awards announce shortlist for independent label of the year

Drum roll… the shortlist for Independent Label of the Year at the 2020 AIR Awards has been revealed.

ABC Music, Spinning Top Records, Elefant Traks, I Oh You and Sweat It Out are shortlisted for the honour, the winner of which receives a digital marketing package from Moshtix valued at $10,000 to help promote their roster.

It’s a bumper lineup, with this year’s nominees representing some of Australia’s most-prized artists from Tame Impala (Spinning Top), to L-Fresh The Lion (Elefant Traks), DMA’S (I Oh You), RÜFÜS (Sweat It Out), Lee Kernaghan (ABC Music) and many more.

Chapter Music scooped the big prize last year.

“We were very chuffed to win Best Independent Label at the AIR Awards last year, especially knowing that it was voted for by our peers in independent music,” recounts Chapter Music Co-founder Guy Blackman.

“Running a label can be a fairly behind the scenes, anonymous task, so having people take notice and express their appreciation meant a hell of a lot. Best of luck to all this year’s nominees.”

Organised by the Australian Independent Record Labels Association, the 2020 AIR Awards will take place at Adelaide’s Lion Arts Factory, on Thursday, 1st October.

As previously reported, Tones And I is up for a stack of awards, and there are multiple nods for Julia Jacklin, Sampa The Great, Stella Donnelly, The Teskey Brothers, Ainslie Wills and others.

Due to the pandemic, this year’s gala will take place from Adelaide’s Lion Arts Factory as a hybrid virtual event, with a live stream on YouTube.

AIR’s Indie-Con Australia conference will brace the awards ceremony, and is all set for Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd October.

Details on tickets and the full program will announced in the coming month.
