ABC Commercial extends exclusive licensing deal with The Wiggles
ABC Commercial has extended its exclusive global licensing agreement with The Wiggles.
The deal will provide the commercial division of the public broadcaster with worldwide distribution rights to the long-running children’s group’s catalogue of recorded music, television and video productions.
ABC Commercial will be permitted to distribute the entirety of The Wiggles’ back catalogue to international streaming services and broadcasters in English-speaking territories, as well as continuing to represent the band’s current lineup with any future releases.
The new deal arrives 30 years after The Wiggles first signed with ABC Commercial for the release of their 1991 self-titled debut, with the ABC remaining as the group’s local distributor for the entirety of their prosperous career.
To date, the children’s group has sold over eight million digital downloads and DVDs and two million CDs in Australia alone.
Internationally, The Wiggles have achieved sales of over 30 million DVDs, eight million albums and eight million books, as well as accumulating over one billion music streams and two billion views on YouTube.
ABC Commercial’s general manager Andrew Lambert celebrated the group’s long-standing partnership with the public broadcaster.
“The Wiggles are the world’s most revered children’s entertainment group, universally celebrated by kids and parents alike both here in Australia and abroad, their music synonymous with the ABC brand,” Lambert said.
“By extending our agreement for distribution rights to their award-winning catalogue of content, I am confident ABC Commercial will continue to build on their immense track-record of international success.”
Original cast member and Blue Wiggle Anthony Field, who now performs with Emma Watkins, Lachlan Gillespie and Simon Pryce in the band’s current line-up, welcomed the contract extension.
“The Wiggles have called the ABC home for over 30 years,“ Field said.
“We’re thrilled to continue that relationship by providing our trusted partner ABC Commercial an extended agreement for the rights to our catalogue.
“We believe this will assist us in our goal in continuing to entertain young children and families everywhere.”
