A Taste of Americana debuting in Sydney in October, offering “the good stuff”
The growing popularity of the Americana genre sees a new festival debut in Sydney next month.
Held on Sunday, October 14 at the Enmore Theatre, the seven-hour all-ages A Taste of Americana festival will feature seven acts.
It is headlined by Nashville-based artist and Jack White protégé Margo Price with fellow Stateiders seminal singer-songwriter Kevin Welch, storyteller and founding member of Old Crow Medicine Show, Willie Watson, and label mate Joshua Hedley whose popularity in Australia is shooting up.
The Australian contingent is made up of Kasey Chambers, William Crighton and Little Georgia.
The event is put together by the US Americana Music Association, Chugg Entertainment, Essence Group, Virgin, Nashville Music City, TN Tourism, Show Group, Sounds of the City and Rhythms Magazine.
The growing popularity of Americana in Australia is attributed for a greater amount of younger audiences attending wider country music events.
Brian Wise, editor of Rhythm magazine says, “Americana is a bit of country, bluegrass and folk mixed with some blues, soul RnB and gospel.
“It encompasses a whole range of authentic musical styles.
“We’d simply call it ‘roots music’ but that still wouldn’t answer the question.
“But rather than try to pin down Americana why not just accept how it is encapsulated by Jim Lauderdale, host of Nashville’s annual Americana Honors & Awards ceremony.
“‘It’s all the good stuff,’ says Lauderdale. If you look through the list of acts playing at the Awards and the Americana Festival you know that for a fact.
“There is no better way of summing it up: It’s all the good stuff.”
