Beckah Amani & Casey Barnes lead Gold Coast Music Award 2021 winners

The Gold Coast Music Awards winners have been revealed.

Going down over the weekend at the Gold Coast’s Home of the Arts Theatre, this year’s awards saw artists take home honours from 10 different categories, with 500 musicians, industry personnel and fans attending the physical ceremony.

The night was dominated by first-time Gold Coast Music Award nominee Beckah Amani, who took home both Song of the Year and Video of the Year for her single ‘STANDARDS’ and delivered a standout performance on the evening.

Country star Casey Barnes was named as the winner of Artist of the Year for the second year running, while Australian/Fijian rapper Jesswar was honoured with the Breakout Artist of the Year gong.

Psychedelic rock outfit Peach Fur was also named as the city’s Live Act of the Year, with multi-instrumentalist/producer Scott French receiving the coveted Musician of the Year award.

Elsewhere, Karl S. Williams’ new record Lifeblood was granted the gong for Release of the Year and Mo’s Desert Clubhouse was named Venue of the Year, while Euca was named as the winner of the 2021 People’s Choice Award.

Local alternative rockers Selve were also named as the recipients of the Gold Coast Music Prize, providing them with 12 months of performance, media and mentorship opportunities.

Gold Coast Music Awards director, Chloe Popa, congratulated each of this year’s winners and performers for making this year’s ceremony one to remember.

“We’re still overwhelmed that the Awards actually happened. It was devastating when our presenting partner, SPRINGTIME Festival, had to postpone, but to have 500 musicians and music lovers in the room today was magic,” Popa said.

“With incredible performances by Beckah Amani, Karl S. Williams, DENNIS., Massy Sky Raid and daste, we feel like today summed up what we know and love about this city: unwavering support, a rich arts scene, musical hits and a touch of glitz.”
