Exclusive: Music Sales announces Launchpad service for unsigned songwriters

The Australian office of global publishing service Music Sales Group has announced a special service for unsigned and/or unmanaged songwriters.

The Launchpad service is one of the first projects under Music Sales Australia’s company Happy as Larry Music Publishing. Happy as Larry was rebranded from Larrikin Music Publishing last year.

Songwriters signed to Happy as Larry Music Publishing are being offered publicity and promotion of their master recordings through:

Media Servicing – Happy as Larry send out finished recordings to large database of contacts from print and online publications, community and commercial radio stations, blogs, newspapers and in-store music companies.

Digital Distribution – The company distributes tracks to online music stores and streaming sites including iTunes, Spotify, Rdio etc.

Label Servicing – The company sends new songs to A&R representatives at major and independent labels and facilitates introductions to label representatives, managers, touring agencies etc.

Media & News – Media releases are written and sent out to promote new releases, touring news and more.

Social Media – Happy as Larry offer assistance in updating social media platforms and obtaining and maintaining a strong online presence and interactions with fans.

Jane English, Managing Director at Music Sales, told TMN she created the service to help developing songwriters:

“Some recordings of local artists/songwriters don’t see the light of day, or not as effectively as they should. I came into Happy as Larry with some great young developing songwriters signed to the roster who had spent money, sometimes their music publishing advances, on creating tracks of their songs but those tracks had gone no further.

“We provide a Launchpad service for developing songwriters of finalising these tracks, releasing them digitally along with a media release, artwork and, if the writer wants it, facilitating a label deal,” English added. “We have other services too. We provide some services otherwise offered by artist management, adding that to our usual songwriter agency role of music publishing.”

English brought on SBA Music Music Programmer (and ex-TMN contributor) Celline Narinli in April this year in the newly created role of Creative Executive in Sydney.

Those wanting to take advantage of Launchpad can contact Narinli at [email protected] or on (02) 8252 6210.
