Sydney’s Spookyland signs to Inertia
PRESS RELEASE:
Inertia has announced the latest addition to our roster: Sydney-based rock and rollers Spookyland. Without wasting a second main man Marcus Gordon, along with brothers in arms Nath Mansfield, Nic Malouf and actual brother Liam Gordon, have packed their bags and traversed to Conor Oberst’s Nebraskan recording studio, Another Recording Company, where their debut full-length is currently taking shape. Spookyland’s debut EP, 'Rock and Roll Weakling’, originally released in September last year, received local and international praise from the likes of Rolling Stone Australia, NME and Pitchfork, who described their music as “so raw and trusting that you want to handle it with care, unlike the heart he sings about that keeps getting carelessly broken”. The band soon proved their mettle in the live arena with high profile support slots including Cold War Kids, Benjamin Bookerand Band of Skulls. Spookyland soon found their way to stages of CMJ for a series of headline showcases and parties for The FADER and Bowery Presents. The band then played a handful of shows in the UK and were signed to Play it Again Sam for UK, US and Europe, keeping company with Jezabels, Editors and The Pixies. On board with William Morris Endeavour for worldwide bookings, the band is also in the US gearing up to play Lollapalooza at the end of the month, as they continue to make a self-assured splash overseas. ‘Rock And Roll Weakling’ EP is out now through Inertia, with the debut album from the band expected to drop in the near future |
