Melbourne’s Japanese Wallpaper inks UK agency deal
Melbourne producer Japanese Wallpaper has inked a deal with Coda Music Agency, appearing as one of the 500 artists and DJs on its live roster.
The 18-year-old musician, whose real name is Gab Strum, is featured as a ‘new signing’ on the UK agency’s website.
After winning triple j’s Unearthed High award last year, Strum has achieved considerable recognition for his music and also within the industry. His first single Breathe In was picked up by triple j, and was also featured as part of the soundtrack to the film, I Wish I Was Here.
Coda Music Agency already boasts an impressive artist roster, including the likes of FKA Twigs, Ellie Goulding, Charli XCX and Bastille. Established in 2002, Coda describes its agency as “a team of open minded professionals, ex-party animals, over sensitive, uptight music geeks and misfits.” Its Australian artists include Sia and Flume.
Last year, renowned talent agency Paradigm acquired a 50% stake of Coda.
Strum has discussed the possibility of a debut album in the works:“I have this image of next year, getting a studio space and writing an album and not being full of self-doubt when it's finished,” he said in a quote published by Coda.
Strum is set to perform at Splendour in the Grassnext month, with a UK and Europe tour slated for 2016.
