Elizabeth Rose partners with Australian Marriage Equality for new single

Sydney producer, DJ and songwriter Elizabeth Rose has partnered with Australian Marriage Equality (AME) for the release of her new single Division.

Speaking to TMN, the Midnight Features signingsaid the track is a direct comment on her views about marriage equality as she speaks out for those currently discriminated against.

“I wrote Division about a year ago now, and my intention was to be quite direct with how I feel about the issue of marriage equality in our country. I am all for it,” Rose told TMN. “I have close friends and also relatives who are in same sex relationships and it is just so wrong that they are legally not allowed to marry the person they love.”

With AME, Rose has joined the fight to have same sex marriage embraced and legally recognised on Australian soil.

“My song Division is written from my point of view expressing my frustration with the ‘division’ in Australia between our government (the coalition) and us, the people, our generation who want change and want marriage equality.

“It is a piece that is very dear to my heart and I really hope it provokes thought and also a positive reaction by getting more support from more Australians to make this change happen.”

Division was premiered this morning ontriple j breakfastand overnight withVice/Thump. For the next 14 days the single is available via Rose’s official website on a pay what you choose basis with proceeds going to straight to AME.

Currently, AME’s Rodney Croome is campaigning to have the National Party and other regional politicians back marriage reform. A national survey conducted last year found that the level of support in regional areas was about 65% only a few points behind the national average.

More than 20 countries have supported same sex marriage including New Zealand, Ireland, France, the UK, Norway and some US states.
