Lawsuit settled over Kanye’s ’Bound 2’
RapmogulKanye West has reportedly settled a lawsuit over a sample used in this 2013 single, Bound 2.
According to Billboard, paperwork was filed to a New York court earlier this May, discontinuing the 2013 lawsuit filed by The Ponderosa Twins Plus One singer Ricky Spicer.
The Jasmine Brand reports that an undisclosed settlement was reached with the 70’s soul singer, with each party agreeing to compensate their own legal fees.
In December 2013, Spicer filed a lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court claiming that West had used his vocals on the track without his consent. According to court papers, Spicer asked West for compensation as well as to cease and desist the usage of his vocals.
Alongside West, the papers also sued Roc-A-Fella Records, Universal Music Group and Island Def Jam Music Group.
“Mr Spicer’s voice is sampled exactly has he recorded it and his voice […] is heard several times,” the papers state.
On the Yeezus single, Spicer’s voice can be heard throughout the chorus singing the lines “Bound, bound/ Bound to fall in love.”
