Omnifone enters partnership with Australian commercial music streaming service Q.SIC
Australia’s first rights holder licensed commercial streaming service Q.SIC has partnered with B2B cloud music platform provider Omnifone.
Using Omnifone’s music cloud MusicStation, Q.SIC delivers commercially licensed digital music to retail and hospitality businesses throughout Australia. Q.SIC’s local clients include McDonald’s, Boost, Mecca Cosmetica, Toyota, Melbourne’s Bells Hotel and Richmond Club Hotel.
Omnifone’s clients include Samsung’s streaming service Milk Music, US broadcasting company SiriusXM, Australian streaming service Guvera, Neil Young’s Pono Music, streaming leader Spotify, and online streaming service rara.com.
Matt Elsley, Chief Executive, Q.SIC said: “We approached Omnifone having recognised the opportunity for streaming music in commercial outlets. The digital background music space is showing great promise as the convenience of streaming fully licensed music from the cloud becomes increasingly desirable in commercial environments.”
Both locally and overseas, retail businesses have come under fire for using services like Spotify or Pandora. Doing sois classed as a public performance and local bodyPPCA protects artists'rights and takes action when commercial entities make use of their content without paying the relevant licence fees.
Research commissioned by APRA has proven that music affects customer behaviour and perception of a venue. APRA also foundthat when customers perceived the venues’ music to match the stylings of the venue itself, the alcohol consumption was significantly higher.
“Music positively influences consumer behaviour in outlets like shops, gyms, bars and restaurants,” added Elsley. “Using Omnifone’s music cloud, we were able to take our business from a standing start to fully operational in a fraction of the time and cost it would have taken to build from scratch.”
Jeff Hughes, Chief Executive, Omnifone said the multi-billion dollar background music market has been historically lead by legacy audio providers. “As a result commercial businesses are turning to digital providers like Q.SIC to replace legacy infrastructures with scalable, cloud-based architectures so that they can stream music that is consistent with their brands across multiple sites,” said Hughes. “Leveraging Omnifone’s optimised music cloud, Q.SIC can scale on a near infinite level while its customers can centrally manage and seamlessly stream music consistent with their brand in all of their branches.
“These first steps into this established and valuable new sector demonstrates the relevance of our music cloud to another huge part of the global music ecosystem. Background music is ripe for disruption and an ideal fit for our platform.”
