Charity festival OXJAM is launching in Australia
PRESS RELEASE:
OXJAM, the month-long music festival raising money to help fight poverty around the world, is coming to Australia. The star-studded event has been running for nearly a decade in the United Kingdom and has attracted celebrity support from the likes of Coldplay, Fatboy Slim, T.E.E.D, 2ManyDJs, Hot Chip and many more.
Announced today, Oxfam and MTV’s music channels MTV Music & MTV Dance will be launching OXJAM in Australia this August. The nation-wide grassroots music festival will feature hundreds of locally organised music events, run by music-loving volunteers, raising money for Oxfam Australia. In the UK, OXJAM has seen 50,000 musicians, thousands of venues and millions of people take part in the annual event.
Oxfam will be partnering with MTV Australia to kick off OXJAM in style with an event at MTV HQ, showing budding club promoters, venues and party-lovers how easy it is to throw your own Gig For Good! MTV VJ Kristian “Krit” Schmidt will host the official launch;
“I hope you’re all ready for OXJAM… MTV is! It’s gonna get hype around the MTV HQ because we’re putting on a special event this August to kick off a month long series of parties against poverty. I encourage you to jump in and throw your own Gigs for Good too! Grab some mates, grab some tunes and grab some donations…. It’s literally that easy! I am stoked to be part of such a great initiative that allows people to raise awareness and funds for Oxfam while having a great time and listening to some great music!
Oxfam has also called in some favours from their buddies in the music industry to curate a series of OXJAM gigs throughout the month of August, with the first wave of support coming via I OH YOU, UNDR ctrl, Noisey, the One Day crew, Motorik and Goodgod Small Club who will all be drawing on their extensive network of artists, agents and industry friends to collectively announce the biggest festival lineup of the year … and raise cash in the process.
The best thing about this national DIY music festival is that as well as supporting Oxfam; anyone can throw their own OXJAM party. Whether you’re a venue, a seasoned party promoter or just a kind-hearted music lover who wants to get some friends together and charge entry in the name of poverty, anyone can take part as a Gig Maker. Everything you need to throw your own OXJAM gig – from expert tips to DIY guides – will be available to you on the OXJAMwebsite.
One in three people around the world live in poverty. Funds raised at OXJAM gigs go towards helping Oxfam fight poverty and injustice. Saving the world has never sounded so good.
THE FULL LINEUP FOR OXJAM LAUNCH EVENTS WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN JUNE
