Demand for Ed Sheeran tickets eclipses last tour
Demand for Ed Sheeran’s upcoming stadium tour has eclipsed the hype of his Australian tour last March.
According to data from Viagogo, the second-hand ticketing distributor, there was2.6 times more demand for Sheeran’s upcoming December concert, compared to his tour earlier this year.
Among his Australian fanbase, Sydneysiders were recorded as Sheeran’s biggest fans, followed by Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.
Alex Levenson, a spokesperson for Viagogo, said that Sheeran’s December shows have had “Australians jumping over themselves to secure tickets.”
“Ed Sheeran loves Australia so much, he is touring the country twice in one year but the feeling is clearly mutual,” Levenson toldTMN.
Viagogo also found that demand for Sheeran’s tickets surpassed those of Taylor Swift’s upcoming1989 Tour, over the same sale period.
Data showed that Sheeran’s tour was more popular in all states where both artists planned to tour. He was 1.8 times more popular than Swift in Sydney, 1.5 times more popular in Melbourne and 2.9 times more popular in Brisbane.
“Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran may be thick as thieves, but that hasn’t stopped us playing favourites. According to our data, Ed Sheeran is the clear winner amongst the Australian public,” said Levenson.
“Perhaps it’s no coincidence that both artists are touring Australia at the same time, and we can’t wait to see what the two have in store for fans this summer.”
Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift will both be touring Australia in December 2015. Tickets are on sale now via Ticketek.
