Charm of Finches signs to NYC label AntiFragile Music
Melbourne duo Charm of Finches has signed to New York indie label AntiFragile in the lead-up to the release of their album this year.
To coincide with the signing announcement, Charm of Finches has also released a cover of Florence + The Machine’s 2018 track, ‘Big God’. The song was recorded and mixed during lockdown in Melbourne.
“Bunkering down together during lockdown, we recorded this song using instruments found in the cupboards (sometimes childhood toys) to create the percussive underlay to the song,” the band’s Ivy Windred-Wornes said.
“Basically, this song is about how one small miscommunication can turn into a massive, sudden and irreparable relationship breakdown between two people.”
Charm of Finches’ forthcoming LP will follow on from the band’s 2019 album, Your Company, which was nominated for Best Folk Album at the Music Victoria Awards and earned a place on the Australian Music Prize longlist.
“I’m overjoyed to have signed Charm of Finches to AntiFragile Music, and we are so looking forward to releasing their next album in 2021; we find their energy and ingenuity really compelling, and Mabel and Ivy are a precocious sister duo who we believe have something culturally important to say in the years ahead,” AntiFragile’s Tom Sarig said in a statement.
