Lisa Mitchell inks international record and publishing deals

Lisa Mitchell has inked a global recordings dealwith Play It Again Sam (PIAS) and has re-signed with Sony/ATV Music Publishing Australia for the world.

The Albury-raised folk-pop artist, who has been working on a follow-up to her 2012 ARIA #7 LPBless This Mess, has signed to London-based Play It Again Sam worldwide except in Australia and New Zealand, where she’s signed to the Warner Music acquiredParlophone.

Cathy Oates, Mitchell’s manager who signed her to agency Original Matters six months ago, told TMN: "Play It Again Sam distribute the most amazing labels around the world but they have select direct signings. We’re already seeing how this will assist with detailed attention, assisting us with promoters and gigs around the world.”

Followingthe release of Wah Ha in the UK last year, Mitchell received support from BBC’s Lauren Laverne and Jo Whiley, performed to sold out crowds in London, played her first US show and played on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic–unsurprisingly her three-date Australian acoustic tour for this month sold out weeks before its kick-off date on March 25.

Peter Thompson, Managing Director of Play It Again Sam, said in a statement: “We are delighted to welcome Lisa to Play it Again Sam. As big fans of her work we think she is a unique songwriter and performer. Her new album is sounding amazing and we feel Lisa has the potential to reach an international audience.”

Mitchell’s deal with Sony/ATV Australia follows a previous deal with London-based, Sony/ATV affiliate publisher Little Victories.

Damian Trotter, the MD of Sony/ATV Music Publishing said: “All of us at Sony ATV worldwide are extremely excited to be continuing on our long standing relationship with Lisa Mitchell which began when she was just 17-years-old.

“Lisa's development as an artist and songwriter over this period has been extraordinary and I couldn't be more impressed with how her new album is shaping up and we are proud to be continuing on our wonderful creative partnership together into the future with her and her manager Cathy Oates.”

“Lisa definitely has had deals and action overseas (Mitchell was previously signed to Sony Music UK)but I think now is really her time,” Oates told TMN.“At just 24 years old and eight years in the business, Lisa has the experience and confidence to focus on the rest of the world.”

Mitchell is currently in the final stages of recording her new album with Eric J Dubowsky (Chet Faker, Flight Facilities).
