Kanye’s agency to open shop in South Korea
Kanye West Creative Team, West’s agency, announced this week that it will establish a joint venture in South Korea by the end of the month.
Titled 10-Jones, the joint-stock company will be headed up by Grammy award-winning producer Malik Yusef Jones; it marks West’s first project of this kind in Asia.
The Wall Street Journal has reported 10-Jones will launch by the end of the year with a focus on three key areas: discovering new pop talent in Asia, serving as an agency for seasoned artists and as a fashion brand. It will also take Korea’s pop talent global and serve as an Asia-based agency for Creative Team affiliates like Drake and Iggy Azalea.
While K-Pop’s industry heavyweights like Psy’s YG Entertainment, SM Entertainment(Girls Generation, Super Junior) andJYP Entertainment(Wonder Girls, 2PM, 2AM) all have tie-ins with major labels to break their acts overseas and will.i.am has previously collaborated with K-pop acts on numerous occasions, West’s establishment of an agency in Asia shows a significant interest in his brand's expansion.
According to The Korea Times, 10-Jones has not announced its Korean investors or any specific details of the project.
