Drake announces inaugural Australian tour
The Grammy, BET and Juno award winner announced his first ever Australian tour this morning after an ominous countdown on his website over the weekend.
Mushroom Group’s promoter arm Frontier Touring and Matt Gudinski’s Illusive label will see Drake take in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane arenas and entertainment centre from February 25 – March.
Matt Gudinski told TMN, he had his sights on facilitating Drake’s inaugural tour since the release of Room For Improvement in 2006.
“After years of trying, starting not long after he dropped his first mixtape, we are thrilled to finally be bringing Drake to Australian shores for his very first tour,” Gudinski told TMN. “The arena show he’s bringing to Australia is one of the biggest hip-hop productions I’ve seen for quite some time. When I saw the show in the US, it was clear that Drake is truly one of the biggest artists in the world right now.”
Along for the tour is rapper 2 Chainz, whose 2012 track No Lie featured Drake and is certified Platinum in the US.
In between his tour dates Drake will headline Future Music Festival.
Pre-sale tickets run from Thursday 27 November (2pm AEDT) to Friday 28 November (2pm AEDT). General public are on sale from 10am local time, Monday 1 December.
