triple j announces J Award nominees and new category

triple j is marking the 10th anniversary of its J Awards with a new award category, the Double J Artist of the Year.

As part of Ausmusic Month, the networked radio station has this morning announced the first round of nominees for its Australian Album of The Year. Nine-time ARIA nominee Chet Faker, Sydney’s The Preatures, #1 Dads (the solo project of Big Scary’s Tom Iansek), Ball Park Music, who took out the Unearthed Artist of the Year award in 2011, Melbourne post-punk band Total Control and Melbourne emcee Remi, who took out the Unearthed J Award last year, are all up for the award with their LP releases.

The winner will join acts like Flume, Gotye, The Presets, Hilltop Hoods, Wolfmother and Tame Impala, who took out the award in 2010 and 2012.

The 2014 J Award Australian Album of the Year nominees are:

Throughout this month triple j will announce nominees for all for J Award categories: Australian Album of the Year, Australian Music Video of the Year, Unearthed Artist of the Year and the inaugural Double J Artist of the Year. triple j relaunched Dig Music, its digital radio service aimed at the over 25s, as Double J in April this year.

Winners will be announced on Tuesday November 18 in Melbourne and broadcast live on triple j from 5pm.

triple j Unearthed is again taking part in ARIA Week, with a showcase featuring Kingswood, Meg Mac and L-FRESH The LION, as well as DJ sets by KLP and Matt & Alex at The Hi-Fi Sydney on Thursday November 27.
