UMPG signs Lance Ferguson
Universal Music Publishing Australia has signed Lance Ferguson to a global music publishing deal.
The New Zealand-born, Melbourne-based songwriter/producer records as a solo artist under the moniker Lanu and as the guitarist of his ever-evolving soul/funk project The Bamboos; he hosts Double J program Sky High and has written and produced with the likes of Aloe Blacc, Tim Rogers, Daniel Merriweather, Lyrics Born and Megan Washington.
Bob Aird, UMP Australia MD, told TMN the publisher has plans to team Ferguson with other artists. “Lance is a proven, accomplished songwriter and it’s our intention to immediately hook up collaborations with some established international and domestic artists where he’ll fit right in,” said Aird.
Heath Johns, UMP Australia Director of A&R said: “I’ve always admired the quality and diversity of Lance’s work from The Bamboos to Lanu and everything in between. Lance is incredibly talented and motivated and we are looking forward to fostering further collaborations and writing opportunities for him at home and abroad.”
Ferguson joins Bjork, Metronomy and Kelis on UMPG’s international roster as well as The Veronicas, Gang of Youths, Guy Sebastian, Little Sea, Jessica Mauboy, The Living End and Bernard Fanning on the Australian roster.
“I am totally excited to become a part of the Universal Publishing roster alongside some of my favourite artists including Bjork, M-Phazes, Metronomy, Feist, Kelis and so many more,” Ferguson said in a statement. “So much of my work with The Bamboos and Lanu has been about collaborating with other artists and I can’t think of a better home to enable me to continue down that road.”
