News Corp delivers on will.i.am’s wearables
News Corp will exclusively provide news for will.i.am’s PULS wearable wristband device (“a cuff not a watch”).
Introduced at the annual four-day Dreamforce conference last week – along with a backpack, a jacket and shoes – the cuff has Facebook, Twitter and Instagram built in. It also supports calls, emails and texting without a phone, can connect to the other wearables, has a GPS system, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities, a music player and fitness tracker.
will.i.am has telco deals in the US with AT&T and UK with O2, but not yet in Australia.
TMN reached out to News Corp Australia who weren’t willing to go on record about the partnership, except to say News Corp is in active discussions with will.i.am about his wearables.
It will be released in the US for the Christmas market.
will.i.am told conference attendees at Dreamforce it took over two and half years to come up with PULS with his tech/fashion company i.am+ and with financial backing by Salesforce.com, the company behind Dreamforce.
