AIR announces Independent Music Award nominees
Nominees for the ninth annual Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards have been announced with DMA’s, Sheppard and RÜFÜS among those taking out multiple nods.
Newtown trio DMA’s are up for the coveted Best Independent Artist against fellow I Oh You label mates Violent Soho as well as Courtney Barnett, John Butler Trio, Chet Faker and Sia. DMA’s also received nods for Breakthrough Independent Artist of the Year and Best Single or EP for their self-titled EP.
Brisbane’s Sheppard is also up for Breakthrough Independent Artist of the Year and their track Geronimo is up for Best Single or EP.
Sydney trio RÜFÜS received three nominations, for Best Independent Album (Atlas), Best Independent Dance, Electronica or Club Single (Sundream) and Best Independent Dance, Electronica Album (Atlas).
An honourable mention goes to Sydney-based label I Oh You; three of its four signed acts received nominations (DMA’s, Violent Soho, DZ Deathrays).
The awards will be held at Meat Market in Melbourne on October 8. Sheppard, Remi, DMA’s, SAFIA and Meg Mac will perform on the night.
