BBC Radio’s George Ergatoudis to receive MusExpo International Music Person of the Year Award

George Ergatoudis, Head of Music, BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, will receive the International Music Person of the Year Award at next year’s MusExpo.

The award, given every year at the so-called ‘United Nations of Music & Media’ conference in LA, honours music industry executives who positively influence the music business on a global scale. This year songwriter Diane Warren, who has penned close to 100 Top 40 hit songs, took out the award and in 2013 Glassnote Entertainment Founder Daniel Glass was honoured.

With over 20 years experience in the music industry, Ergatoudis cut his teeth as a radio producer for Kiss 100 FM (1991-1997) before joining Radio 1 (1997-2000) producing the likes of Jo Whiley and Simon Mayo. Prior to his current role as Head of Music at BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, Ergatoudis managed Radio 1Xtra’s music policy (2000-2005) and was responsible for championing Dizzee Rascal, Wiley, Jay Z, Eminem, Kanye West and Pharrell. More recently he was a major linchpin in the radio promotion of The 1975, Disclosure, Royal Blood, Clean Bandit and Jessie J.

In 2011, Ergatoudis was ranked #7 in The Guardian’s Music Power 100 list and this year was named in the 2014 Sunday Times-Debretts list of the 500 most influential people in the UK.

MusExpo takes place on April 26 – 29 2015 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel with evening showcases at SIR Studios Los Angeles. Ergatoudis will deliver a keynote speech in front of the international music industry’s veteran power players. The 2015 event with mark MusExpo’s 11th conference.

MusExpo organisers will also present the 2nd annual Global Rock Summit on April 24 – 25; a conference which solely focuses on the rock music sector and the creative and live entertainment industries.
