The Weeknd stays top as Hottest 100 tracks climb ARIA Charts

A week on from triple j’s annual Hottest 100 broadcast, the effects of the countdown are being felt on the ARIA Charts.

The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ retains pole position for the second consecutive week, no mean feat considering the record-setting stranglehold that ‘Dance Monkey’ by Tones And I had had on top spot.

Both tracks landed in the Hottest 100, with the former coming in at #71, while ‘Dance Monkey’ was fourth after being widely tipped to win the listener-voted countdown.

That honour went to Billie Eilish, whose ‘Bad Guy’ jumps from #21 to #3 this week.

Many other tracks have moved back up the charts after securing high finishes in the triple j poll, including Flume & Vera Blue’s ‘Rushing Back’ (up 16 spots to #8) and Eilish’s ‘Everything I Wanted’ (up nine places to #11).

Sofi Tukker’s ‘Purple Hat’ leaps 17 frames to #23 and Travis Scott’s ‘Highest In The Room’ rises eight places to #30.

Eilish is also benefitting on the ARIA Albums Chart. She had five tracks land in the Hottest 100, with all but one featuring on her 2019 debut album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?

The album climbs four frames this week to be the #1 album in the country. The Top 5 is made up by new releases from Eminem, Harry Styles and Halsey, as well as Elton John’s Diamonds which continues to benefit from his ongoing farewell tour of Australia.

G Flip’s About Us rises to #23 this week, after racking up four entries in the Hottest 100, while Thelma Plum’s Better In Blak re-enters the Top 50 after three tunes made it into triple j’s countdown.
